Alaska is home to many bodies of waters that are perfect for fly fishing. Alaska has more than 47,000 miles of coastline. And that should be enough to encourage saltwater fly fishing enthusiasts to try this State for their next fly fishing adventure.

The best time to do some fly fishing is during the summer, when the five breeds of the Pacific Salmon are abundant. But for a much bigger challenge, steelheads are the specie of choice. There’s also the rockfish that can be found along the rocky shorelines of Alaska. Indeed, Alaska fly fishing is one big adventure that true blue fly fisherman should never miss.

If you don’t fancy saltwater fly fishing, Alaska can also accommodate you with their stream and stillwater fly fishing offering. Freshwater fish are also abundant, with more than half a million square miles of rivers and lakes in the area. The Kenai Peninsula is the finest place to catch prized salmon during June, just when the tide is high. It is also during this time of the year that salmon migrate upstream to spawn.

If you want King Salmon, the Anchor River is the area of choice. It is located near Homer and it is open during all weekends in June. There are also King Salmon present in the Kasilof River. And unlike the Anchor River, it is open the whole month of June. Alaska fly fishing enthusiasts are advised to check out these bodies of water if they happen to arrive at this particular month.

Come July, the best place to be for Alaska fly fishing is on the remote areas of the Alpine Lakes. There are many secret lakes in and around the State and there are plentiful Rainbows and Grayling milling about. Take out your dry or wet flies and go fly fishing right there from the shore or from the float tube.

In August, the season for King Salmon in the Alaskan waters is over. But it is the start of the Silver Salmon season. This is one of the most aggressive species of salmon and it is always an adventure catching them. Try to visit Kenai Lake and Kenai River to have a feel the real Alaska fly fishing adventure. These bodies of water are rich in salmon up until September. It is also in September when Alaska fly fishing for trout is at its peak.
